Alana Roach’s critique of Jenel M. Slonaker

This poem is about a person whom has built up walls from being hurt, and is now beginning to let her/himself be known again.
I think this is a very imaginative sequence of vividly beautiful scenery displaying her emotional walls that she has thrown up over the years, and of course her not being able to keep up the blocks as time goes on.
I love the ending lines, “Now I’m bathing in a hurricane, Now neither parched nor penitent” . You think of bathing in a hurricane as something intense that commands attention. A great way to finish this poem.
I would have liked more details on why these walls were built. More personality to the person behind the walls.
