Ben's analysis of Sitting in Stillness by Amber
This dramatic poem depicts a strong yet slightly mentally-beaten woman waiting for her husband to return. This can be interpreted two ways. First, she is at home with her kid, worried and upset enough with her mate being home late to stay up waiting for him yet proud enough not to call and nag. However when he returns she forgets her anger and instead is glad he's home. Another interpretation is that she is the husband of a war veteran on his way home. She is a strong woman yet emotionally has been wrecked throughout his war-time campaign. He is late to arrive and she has been waiting for a long time. However once she hears the long anticipated knock on the door from him, her body falls and breaks with emotions of joy. This poem easily relates to woman all over the world. It draws the reader in and allows them to question the purpose of her waiting. However the mention of her being beaten, battered, and bruised without a hint of how can confuse the reader
