Ben's analysis of The Commons by Joann

This lyrical poem creates an image of a college courtyard in the middle of the night, dark and eeire with noone present. To me this poem dipicts a student, walking back to his/her dorm room alone perhaps on a weekend night while the rest of the campus is partying. The "long night" will be full of studying for an upcoming test and the "screams" are of joy and fun taking part far away. This feeling of loneliness relates to all students who have work to do instead of having fun with their friends. The only thing I would change in this poem would be to more clearly declare the theme, which is almost unknown to the reader without guessing.
