Ben's analysis of Free by Mary
The nature poem creates a vivid image of a natural mountain valley. It is divided into three parts, the first a scence of serenity, the second of violence, and the third a departure for freedom. I think the imagery in the first and second stanzas depicting the morning and luminiscent shadows works well. Dark imagery appears in the form of foxes eating lingering rabbits. Reading the last stanza makes me picture a meadowlark full of hope flying into freedom. The only thing I would change would be the repetition of words, although this creates a meaning they don't have much effect.
