Mary's Review of James McBride Lecture
James McBride, author of The Color of Water, came to CCBC recently to talk to students about life on earth as a human being. His story included perspective of failure and that nothing is considered a failure in life because life is about failure. Mr. McBride spoke diligently about attitude and the importance of keeping positive about each new experience. The whole purpose of an experience is not whether we fail or not but how we view our failures and what value there is to learning from each one. He spoke of his experience at Oberlin College and what gift it was to be able to attend an abolitionary school; what a privilege it was to be there. A saxophone player, Mr. McBride (a PhD) emphasized the critical essence of learning. He complemented us for being students of a collegiate level, to value it and continue to grow. His lecture was motivational and stimulating to the writer and provided not only a sense of direction, focus as well. The lecture was concluded with reception and book signing.
